RECESSION / DEPRESSION ??
ARE WE HEADED FOR ANOTHER RECESSION OR WILL IT BE A DEPRESSION THIS TIME?
The Great Depression was a worldwide economic depression that lasted 10 years. Its kickoff was “Black Thursday," October 24, 1929. That's when traders sold 12.9 million shares of stock in one day, triple the usual amount. Over the next four days, stock prices fell 23 percent in the stock market crash of 1929.
We witnessed another great recession but thankfully not a depression in 2008.
The Great Recession, which officially lasted from December 2007 to June 2009—began with the bursting of an 8 trillion dollar housing bubble. The resulting loss of wealth led to sharp cutbacks in consumer spending. This loss of consumption, combined with the financial market chaos triggered by the bursting of the bubble, also led to a collapse in business investment. As consumer spending and business investment dried up, massive job loss followed. In 2008 and 2009, the U.S. labour market lost 8.4 million jobs, or 6.1% of all payroll employment. This was the most dramatic employment contraction (by far) of any recession since the Great Depression.
Coming to Indian banking sector, their pile of bad loans, or stressed assets, was close to Rs10 lakh crore($154 billion) in 2017, which is more than the GDP of at least 137 countries. What’s more, it is only growing.
With the stressed banking sector, and an escalating tariff war of USA with CHINA makes us think, are we headed for another recession?
Analyzing through PLANETS , we see that..
1)CHINA which has created an economic bubble for itself because of the trade policies adopted, will undergo a Financial crisis from Sep 2019 and the situation will worsen from Jan 2020
2) Economic condition of USA will also deteriorate from March 2020
